Las Cruces Appliance Repair Pros talk about Dishwashers

While operating, most appliances emit a variety of noises, however certain sounds can indicate a serious malfunction. When it comes to your dishwasher, ignoring an unusual noise can lead to a flood, or even the need for a new appliance or a major repair. After you’ve detected an audible change in your dishwasher’s performance, it’s highly recommended you either contact a local appliance repair company in Las Cruces or attempt to troubleshoot the appliance yourself. To help you differentiate between normal noises and ones that should be a cause for concern, we’ve listed 3 sounds that deserve your immediate attention.

High Pitched Squealing

If you notice a squealing noise coming from your dishwasher, the most likely culprit is the appliance’s fan. Unfortunately, overtime the bearings on the fan can begin to rust or wear out. When this happens your dishwasher’s drying cycle can become extremely noisy. Fixing this issue requires replacing the fan with a new one. Once that’s done, the machine’s drying cycle should operate at its usual sound level.

Inlet Valve

The inlet valve supplies your dishwasher with fresh water. Oftentimes, a clanking or rattling sound during the start of a fill cycle indicates the valve is either completely broken or is on its way to no longer performing properly. The intense noise you hear is caused by the valve opening too quickly which leads to your water pipes shaking uncontrollably. To eliminate the noise, you’ll need to replace the inlet.

Clogged Pump

Food, broken glass and other bits of debris often find their way into your dishwasher’s pump. The obstruction can cause the appliance’s impeller to generate a grinding noise as it hits the objects blocking its movement. Luckily, fixing a clogged pump is an easy repair. To begin, simply remove your dishwasher’s bottom rack and spray arm. Once both items are out of your way, you should have no problem spotting and cleaning up the unwanted debris. After you’ve finished, place the spray arm and rack back into place and turn on your dishwasher to ensure the grinding noise is no longer present.
